Egyptian Spiny-tailed Lizard Translocation

The Egyptian Spiny-tailed Lizard , recognized as Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List, faces threats from expanding energy infrastructures, particularly wind farms. NCE has been at the forefront of efforts to protect this species within the Amunet Wind Power Company's domain. Through meticulous research, we identified the habitats most affected by upcoming developments and orchestrated a translocation process to minimize disruption during their hibernation period. The lizards are housed in an environment that mirrors their natural habitat, ensuring a smooth transition upon re-introduction to the wild post-construction. This initiative underscores our commitment to biodiversity conservation and is made possible through the support of our partners at AMEA Power, the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, and the tireless efforts of Safesoar.
